Make a Wise Marketing Move and Place and ad in the VTRCC Directory and Relocation Guide!

The Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the commencement of advertising sales for our new Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber Directory and Relocation Guide. Performance Publishing Group, Inc., one of the largest and most successful chamber publishers in the country, will produce our 2003-2004 directory.

Many people turn to the Chamber Directory to locate the best and most accessible companies in the area. The Directory will provide a colorful showcase for the local business community and is rich with community resources and business networking information that consumers use throughout the year. Performance Publishing Group, Inc. states that 89% of their typical chamber readership holds onto their directories for the entire year. PPG user research indicates that over 35% of their users return to the directory a minimum of nine times throughout the year to consult the advertising for their buying needs.

The professional design features extensive four-color, coated stock with high-end graphics and magazine style layouts. The Directory includes attractively-designed special guide sections by general business category, with editorial space available for Member advertisers. Special sections may include an Aarea Map, Dining, Professional Services, Real Estate, Retail/Shopping, and Accommodations. There will also be a classified section that includes a listing for every member. Advertising opportunities are available in the classified section.

Approximately 6000 copies of the directory will be distributed throughout the community including key areas such as real estate, banks, city offices, visitors centers, high traffic areas, key residential, hotels, etc. The combination of high advertising value and affordable rates creates a marketing piece that will give your business a full year of returns. For more information about this opportunity, call the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce at 703-281-1333.

Message from the President

Dear VTRCC Members and Friends of the Chamber,

I would like to remind our VTRCC members that June is our membership renewal month. Invoices will be mailed on June 1, 2003. Those members who renew by July 1, 2003 will receive a $5 VTRCC mixer coupon. Members who renew by August 1, 2003 will be included in the 2003-2004 Chamber Directory. Those who renew after August 1, 2003 are in jeopardy of being dropped from the chamber membership. As you are aware, the VTRCC has limited resources and a two person staff. As your President, I strongly encourage you to renew in a timely manner. By renewing on time, you will help keep our overhead down and prevent a waste of limited office resources. Please don’t delay and thanks for your continued support.

In order to continue growing our Chamber and implement programs of interest for our members, area businesses, and the community, I need your help. If you have any suggestions or ideas that you think the VTRCC should consider or if you would like to schedule a time to meet with me, please call 703-281-1333 or email me at gpowersjr@vtrcc.org. I am looking forward to hearing from area businesses and community members so that we can improve the VTRCC. Thanks for your continued support. If you missed our May events, I hope to see you at our upcoming events and activities in June.

If you should have any questions or require more information about the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce, please visit us online at www.vtrcc.org or call 703-281-1333. Please remember to call the Chamber to RSVP for our events and activities.

I look forward to seeing you at our June events.

Very truly yours,

Francis G. Powers, Jr.

Residential real estate assessments are up. All other forms of County revenue are down, including commercial real estate and state funding. School enrollment and population is increasing and a fledgling economy has rendered our human services even more stretched than usual. Such is the situation that faced by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors as we entered into our Fiscal Year 2004 budget deliberations.

The Board adopted a budget that reduced the real estate tax rate by five cents, provided a six percent increase to the school transfer, and took reductions to other County expenditures of more than $51 million. These were not easy reductions and I am extremely concerned with the effects they may have on our community and on the services provided to our residents. Without action by the General Assembly to allow the County to diversify our revenue base, however, the Board will continue to walk the dangerous tightrope of depending on real estate tax revenue to fund our essential services.

The business community’s support of last November’s sales tax referendum and their recent actions in support of raising transient occupancy taxes both exhibit recognition of the need to tap other sources if we are to maintain the sanctity of this wonderful community we share in Fairfax County. Residents of the Town of Vienna currently pay a 20-cent cigarette tax, a four- percent meals tax, and a four-percent transient occupancy tax – far higher than those in Fairfax County proper. Were such rates imposed in Fairfax County, as is currently forbidden by state law, the County could raise $71 million and reduce the real estate tax by an additional five cents. I look to the business community to voice the need for flexible revenue sources to our state representatives and to candidates for office this election year.

Committee News

Greetings from the Technology Committee!

For those of you who are not familiar with the Tech Committee, we are comprised of volunteers from the Vienna-Tysons Chamber of Commerce ranging from industries such as IT Services for business to home support and anywhere in between. Our goal is to combine the perspectives and questions from many different industries (relating to technology) in order to be able to identify the most common tech problems that are experienced by Chamber members and their businesses. Once those issues are identified, we strive to provide education and solutions for those issues so that your business is no longer stuck in the chaos that IS the technological unknown.

So what do we do?

We hope to bring our combined experience to the table to help Chamber members better understand the technology around them and how it can help, in there business and everyday life. Our committee is open to anyone who would like to come and sit on our board and share or learn. We meet the third Tuesday of the month. For more information please feel free to contact our Chairman George B. Gould with TOGG Inc.

He can be reached at 703-266-8522 we look forward to meeting and working with all of you.
