FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Congratulations to our Member of the Month

The VTRCC Member of the Month is a program to thank those Chamber members who have gone “above and beyond” the call of duty. Members will be selected based on their level of involvement with the Chamber and the community at large. Any VTRCC member can nominate another member by alerting the President or an Executive Committee member of a deserving individual. The Executive Committee has the final say in selection, and members can receive this distinction no more than once every two years. To nominate, email dpoldy@vtrcc.org.

Help us recognize our December Member of the Month: Mayda Sakawat

We can't thank Mayda enough for her generous contributions of time and energy to the Chamber from the moment she became a member in March of this year. She is a role model for new members in how to participate, network and get involved in activities in the Chamber. Mayda served on the 2007 Halloween Parade Committee as Sponsorship Chair and made this one of the best-sponsored parades ever. Then she rode around in the rain the night of the parade in a golf cart helping keep everything running smoothly. She really helped demonstrate how Chamber members partner with the Town of Vienna to make this such a great community in which to live, work and play. Mayda's next contribution will be to chair the Prize Committee for our 2008 Casino Night and Taste of the Town. It is a privilege to be able to honor her professionalism and dedication with this award.

Mayda Sakawat is an Independent Consultant and District Manager for Arbonne International which specializes in pure, safe and beneficial skin care and wellness products. In an effort to differentiate herself you will hear her say she has 'The Mayda Touch'. "You cannot avoid your birthday," she says, "but you can avoid looking like you have celebrated many."

Mayda has an extensive background in the investments and insurance arena which spans almost 15 years where she has been able to harness her desire to educate and coach others to plan for the future. She earned her BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance/Management from the State University of NY in Albany and also holds a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Keller Graduate School of Management.

Mayda was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Liberty, New York, a small town in the Catskills where she struggled with severe eczema. Out of this struggle a passion for the wellness lifestyle was born that would later fuel her desire to become an entrepreneur.

When Mayda decided to start her Arbonne business this past March, she decided that the VTRCC would be the most logical place to meet people in the community. Not only was it logical, but becoming a VTRCC member "was by far the best decision I have made for my business. I have met some wonderful people and they have been extremely supportive. I believe it is my duty to help other business owners realize the same success that I have had."

Looking for the perfect gift this holiday season? Mayda is offering all Chamber members a 20% discount on all Luxurious Holidays purchases thru December 20, 2007.

We can’t thank Russell enough for his incredible generosity to the Chamber, both in resources and time. He works behind the scenes on every major Chamber project, yet most members are not aware of the great contributions Russell makes to the success of this Chamber. His donation of free storage for the Chamber’s Halloween Parade and Casino Night materials is invaluable. But then he always helps deliver and retrieve all the equipment for events and often single-handedly packs and unpacks the storage unit each time. Russell has served on the Halloween Float Committee every year since 2005 and been co-chair the last couple of years, even stepping in as chair in 2006 when the project chair was incapacitated. When the Parade is over each year, Russell steps in and does it all over again for Casino Night— storage, transportation, construction, and anything else the committee needs. It is a privilege to be able to honor Russell’s professionalism and dedication with this award.

Russell Brannan is a Virginia native who moved to the Town of Vienna in 2004. He immediately joined the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce, became a very active member, and was awarded as the 2005 New Member of the Year.

Russell is proud to have contributed to the success of Casino Night and Taste of the Town, the VTRCC Fall Carnival, and the Chamber’s Halloween Parade float for the past four years.

In addition to supporting the Chamber, United Storage - Vienna has supported the community in many other ways. They sponsored and supplied volunteers for the Vienna Jaycees 5K Turkey Trot; participated in the Special Olympics “Dulles Days” at Dulles Airport; and donated time, storage space, and/or services to the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, Our Daily Bread, Vienna Presbyterian Church, Vienna Assembly of God, the Committee for Helping Others, and James Madison High School.

Russell’s involvement in the Chamber and community have paid off for United Storage; occupancy at the Vienna facility has increased 31% in the past three years.

With his wife Stephanie and his dogs Twister and Zoe, Russell really enjoys living in the Town of Vienna. He loves working with other Chamber members, and looks forward to volunteering at many events in the future to help build a better community.

Janice’s leadership of the Non-Profit Committee would be enough to qualify her as a Member of the Month. First as Secretary, and then as Chairman and Board Liaison of the Committee, she has been a driving force that has grown not only the numbers, but the involvement of Chamber Non Profit members to an all time high. Her commitment to the Chamber reaches far beyond the Non Profit Committee; she was a top recruiter of new members for the 2006 Membership Drive, volunteered as a dealer at Casino Night; and has led the effort to form strategic partnerships between the business and non profit Chamber members.

Janice Holmblad was the Executive Director of the Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna through June 2006, and remains a member of their Development Committee. Her work experiences have been both professional and volunteer. Please help us recognize our June Member of the Month: Claire Liston

Claire Liston
C Liston Communications
Phone: 703-837-8441
claire.liston@cliston.com
www.cliston.com

Claire is the consummate Chamber member. Her creativity and hard work are evident in every aspect of VTRCC – she designed and maintains our website; she has been one of the masterminds, as well as a workhorse, for Casino Night, the Halloween Parade, the Carnival, and the Golf Tournament for the last 3 years. Her graphic talents are responsible for all the great posters and print materials that are the public face of VTRCC. She knows more than any other person about the history and working of the Chamber, because she has done it all!

Claire Liston started C. Liston Communications in January 1998 to provide top-notch communications services to organizations who didn't have staffing in that area. She specializes in creating 'big business' standards of appearance for small businesses and nonprofits, even on a budget, from needs assessment through logo design and corporate identity. Claire is also a Web site designer who has created many stunning custom sites-- but she is most proud to be one of a minority of designers who has been available to service client websites over many years.

In a profile in the September 2000 issue of Entrepreneur’s Start-ups magazine, Claire shared her customer-service orientation: “Serve your clients in as many ways as you know how.” That mantra helped turn a two-week assignment at the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce (a web client), into a three-year parttime job-- a labor of love for the dynamic and friendly membership. Though no longer on-site, Claire continues to be the Chamber's Webmaster and an active member.

Claire's family and hobby is the homeless dog population. In the past five years, she has provided foster care and rehabilitation for more than 200 homeless canines. She is also the co-founder and VP for Education of GoodDogz.org, a four-year-old organization dedicated to public education and rescue group support.

Please help us recognize our May Member of the Month: Tana Keefe

There are so many reasons why Tana should be getting this honor, not the least of which is her superb work to make our 2006 Casino Night the most profitable one ever. Of course her work as Sr. VP of Fundraising makes it possible for the Chamber to exist financially and puts our name out there with Fundraising Events that are the "places to be" in the area. Behind the scenes she is inexhaustible in the time and energy she gives and she never drops the ball, although she juggles more than anyone else could possible handle. Her ability to keep the big picture in the forefront while never missing a single detail is awesome and unequalled.

Tana spent seven years in the technology industry, working both in sales and business development. Currently she is a Realtor with the Vienna Long and Foster office on a team with her mother, Debbie Earman and sister, Brett Cordeau. When employed at Network Solutions, Tana was the Chairperson for the Community Action Committee. The CAC gave her an opportunity to work with many organizations, non-profits, individuals and events within the Northern Virginia communities and to help those in need.

Tana currently lives in Vienna with her husband Doug and son Alex. She grew up playing Vienna sports and attending Vienna schools. She cherishes the memories the community has provided her and looks forward to creating new ones with her own family.
